Having returned for its 38th edition, the annual Eastleigh 10k race took place over the weekend on Sunday 19th March, and after months of preparation, a small team at Peters & May based in Eastleigh, took on the challenge.
Both avid runners and beginners alike came together to train and support one another, through evenings, weekends, and questionable weather forecasts. Thankfully, the day of the race proved to be the “perfect weather for running” as Elaine Wheeler, Senior Finance Analyst recalls.
Elaine was among the five employees at Peters & May who signed up to the challenge. She faced some friendly sibling rivalry during the race as she ran alongside her brother, but he took the victory of a finish time just 30 seconds faster than her timing of 58:01 minutes.
“It was lovely to see the community come together, the entire route was surrounded with families, friends and neighbours all calling out their support. The local army cadets were also there at the 6k mark, handing out much needed cold waters to all passing runners.” Said Elaine.
On completing the race, all participants were able to collect their medals and a selection of sweet treats to replenish some of the calories they had burned. “The Jaffa Cakes at the end made it all worthwhile” said Shane Brearley, Technical Operations Manager at Peters & May.
All five finished the race strong and proud of their efforts, and all in support of the Peters & May Foundation. The Peters & May Foundation aims to raise funds and awareness for charities through sponsorships, events, and fundraising activities. The current charities include Oceana UK, Teen Marine UK, St Margaret’s Hospital Breast Unit and Cancer Research UK.
