Bespoke logistics provider, Peters & May Group – in conjunction with Bespoke Loads Solutions – proudly used the patented load system, Flat Rail, as a revolutionary alternative to expensive break bulk shipments for the first time into Kingston, Jamaica this month.
The shipment was seamlessly managed by Peters & May Group in collaboration with Bespoke Load Solutions – who operate the innovative patented Flat Rail system on a one-way lease basis – to ensure 2 pilot boats reached their destination on time and within budget.
The 2 pilot boats were manufactured by Damen in The Netherlands for delivery to The Port Authority of Jamaica and have dimensions of 15.5M x 5.1 x 5.55 with weights of 25 tons – meaning their size and weight still put them well within the 34 tons capacity of the 7.2M length Flat Rails.
The expert loading and securing of the cargo onto the 40ft flat rack was completed on the quayside (not on-board vessel) by Peters & May’s own dedicated loadmaster, resulting in much improved efficiency for vessel operations, port stay time, stowage planning and cost management. With the focus on providing first-class customer service, the ability to provide more diverse methods of shipping is key for the Peters & May Group.
When compared to the traditional way of shipping larger pieces of cargo on container vessels – usually referred to as breakbulk or simply uncon – carriers, port officials, stevedores and clients alike are all struck by the simplicity of this operation.
Peters & May are delighted to be using the new technology to new destinations around the globe as Flat Rail opens new markets to shippers since the relative simplicity of loading and discharging means that container carriers such as CMA CGM can also accept shipments to ports served by transhipment. Being able to offer tailored solutions to clients is at the heart of Peters & May and the Flat Rail system allows this to be offered as a forward-thinking shipping alternative.
Chris Steibelt, Business Development Manager, BLS, commented “Our client Peters & May has used our patented system to great effect with these pilot boats. There’s also excellent support from CMA CGM’s Project Cargo Division who appreciate the unique opportunity that Flat Rail offers in the breakbulk cargo supply chain”
