If not absolutely necessary you as Yacht Owner (or its representative or servant) are NOT allowed to board the Vessel. We understand that you may like to see your yacht on board the Vessel but for safety reasons the Ocean Carrier must be very strict in allowing access. The vessel is not a passenger ship and there is no warranty that the vessel is fit for access to passengers, visitors or others. Any undertaking as to seaworthiness that might otherwise exist being hereby expressly waived.
If boarding is absolutely necessary, you need to obtain (timely) prior permission from Peters & May. If you have been given such permission and you board the vessel you will be considered to have accepted all risk of loss of life and personal injury as well as of loss or damage to personal effects or baggage whilst embarking, disembarking or during your stay on board. No one under 18 years old will be allowed on board under any circumstance.
Beware of any potentially dangerous situations like open manholes, cables, wires, slippery decks etc. Upon boarding the vessel, you are to report yourself immediately to the officer of the watch. You are to remain in a safe area during cargo operations.
When disembarking / joining your yacht, you have to adhere to the ports safety regulations, and the current COVID 19 protocols: so you must follow the 5 point PPE plan. This means you must be wearing at all times the following items of safety clothing – Safety Helmet, High Vis Jacket, Safety Shoes, Protective Eyeglasses and Protective Gloves. In addition, you are likely to be required to wear a face mask, utilise hand sanitizer, and maintain social distancing.
Please note these not Peters & May rules, but official port rules that will be enforced whilst alongside. If you do not have these safety items, please let us know in plenty of time so we can assist you in sourcing the same.
Once you have boarded the vessel:
- Always strictly follow the instructions of the Duty Officer, Captain and Load Master. Failure to do so may lead to you being removed.
- Stay in the designated areas.
- Stay out of the range of the cranes.
- Keep clear from the edge of the hatches of the vessel and do not jump or run.
- Do not board your yacht without notifying the crew or the Load Master; make sure you have somebody to hold the ladder for you.
- Once on board your yacht, prepare her for sea transport or for discharging. You must stay on board the yacht until you get new instructions from our Load Master.
- Once the yacht is discharged DO NOT start the engine until the lifting gear is clear from your yacht and check with loadmaster if it is safe/all clear.
Remember safety first and always.
Preparation for loading/discharging your yacht:
- Have a minimum of 2 long mooring lines on standby, one fore and one aft.
- Have sufficient fenders ready in position.
- Switch on/off your batteries and check you have sufficient power to start the engine.
- Switch off your bilge pump before or after loading.
- Ensure your drain plug is in place before discharging.
- Disconnect/connect your backstay once alongside or when preparing for discharge.
- Once the boat is discharged DO NOT start the engine until the lifting gear is clear from your yacht.
- Windmill generator to be disconnected/dismantled (risk of overcharging/fire).
- EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) switched off.
- Ensure lifting sling positions are clearly marked.
- Disembark /embark your yacht when you have prepared the yacht for lifting and before we start rigging the lift gear for your yacht. Embarking/disembarking your yacht alongside the vessel is done by pilot (rope) ladder or a tender boat. It is essential to be fit for climbing a ladder if need be.
At no time are you allowed to stay on your yacht whilst it is being lifted.
By boarding the vessel and by signing the vessel’s log sheet upon boarding, you herewith expressly agree that the vessel, its owners, and any of their respective managers, charterers, agents, Master mariners, employees, servants, contractors or sub-contractors to any level are under no liability whatsoever, whether statutory or otherwise, and whether or not there be negligence on the part of any of the aforesaid in respect of loss of life, personal injury or loss of or damage to personal effects, baggage or other property.
