The St Barths Bucket Regatta marked the start of the milestone 2017 J Class yachts racing season, with 6 yachts making up the spectacular fleet.
Velsheda, one of the original yachts, started the week strong with 2 bullets (1st place) in the opening races and were in position to take the title on the last day, but a great final race by Hanuman saw them snatch victory in the J Class at the Bucket 2017.
Winning skipper-helm, on Hanuman, Ken Read observed. "That was a great race. But we had to get lucky. Sometimes your luck goes with you. We are really stoked. Jim and Kristy Clark the owners are super stoked. The good news is we see a lot of potential for improvement before Bermuda."
The yachts are now gearing up for their next J Class event which will be in Bermuda, to coincide with the 2017 America’s Cup. A fitting regatta given the history of the J Class.
Peters & May’s specialist Yacht Racing Division, after transporting the J’s kit from Europe to the Caribbean, has already been planning the logistics of the team’s movements on to Bermuda over the last few months.
Steven Franklyn from the Yacht Racing Division commented- “We have a special sailing loading in Antigua during May poised to deliver the containers, tenders and other yachts looking to head to Bermuda to take part in or watch the America’s Cup 2017 action”
