After 5 months of competition, we have seen some fantastic racing! Kicking off in Croatia back in May, this year’s 52 SUPER SERIES has flown by, ending with an action-packed regatta in Valencia last week!
As Valencia Sailing Week 2018 began, everyone was desperate to finish the season on a high. Most of all, teams and spectators were determined to have fun! Eleven TP 52 Racing Yachts sailed in the waters off Valencia’s Malvarrosa Beach, originally the racing territory of the America’s Cup.
It was Luna Rossa who placed 1st at the end of Valencia Sailing Week 2018 with 31 points, meaning Quantum Racing claim the title as winner of the 52 SUPER SERIES 2018 with 160 points. With light and shifty sea breezes, Valencia was a tricky one to call. The lack of weather consistency presented a challenge for racers, enabling speed edges to be gained when tacticians made the right call. With a lot of position switching, teams were squeezed in and out of place, making for interesting racing.
Valencia Sailing Week was an exciting event for Peters & May teams, taking place just a stone’s throw from our Spanish office. Adding to the action, was the involvement of Peters & May with a variety of events to mark the end of an exciting season. It was all to play for on Day 2 of Racing in Valencia; with Peters & May offering 13 Champions League tickets to the Valencia vs Juventus match for winners. Unfortunately, nature didn’t play ball, with a lack of wind resulting in the cancellation of regattas on Day 2. Great news for Platoon & Azzurra, both on an equal pegging with overall results, they shared the tickets.
In collaboration with Southern Spars, Peters & May also hosted a Crew Dinner at Veles y Vents to mark the end of a great day’s sailing last Thursday. Well earned by the crews, all teams were invited for some good food, a few drinks and some down time! A great night was had by all. Justo Gosalbes, Managing Director of Peters & May Spain; commented; ‘As the preferred logistics partner to the 52 SUPER SERIES, it’s great to increase our involvement. The Crew Dinner in particular provided a fantastic opportunity for our logistics experts to catch up with teams and find out first hand, how things were going. Likewise, team members were able to share with us their future racing plans and discuss logistics support for these’.
Throughout the series, Peters & May’s expert Loadmasters, transported the TP52 fleet between various event locations. Now that the series has come to a close, Peters & May will transport the fleet back home!
After a great end to the season, the countdown is on until next year’s 52 SUPER SERIES!
