It has been an intense series so far. Four regattas spanning popular racing arenas across Europe have had us on the edge of our seats at times. However, later this month, the 52 Super Series is set to come to a close. The last 52 Super Series regatta Porto Cervo Sailing Week begins on 24th September.
Hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Sardinia, the course is synonymous with racing of the highest international level. Located on the coast of the Tyrhenian Sea, Sardinia is steeped in racing history. Previous events include the TP52 world championships and maxi worlds.
Heading into Porto Cervo it is Azzurra who are in first place overall. With 133 points, Azzurra sit just ahead of Platoon (139 points) and Quantum (144 points) on the leader board. It remains to be seen if Azzurra can defend their leading position during Porto Cervo.
Managing Director of Peters & May’s Spanish office Justo Gosalbes has been a spectator at all the regattas of the series. As the official logistics partner to the 52 Super Series our teams have been on-hand to arrange anything from racing yacht transport or the urgent shipment of parts. Justo Gosalbes comments: “It’s hard to believe that the series is almost finished. As the last regatta of the series, there is a lot of pressure on teams at Porto Cervo to perform well. It’s their last chance to make up places and fight for their positions. At this late stage in the competition, results are still very close adding to that pressure. Having spoken to teams, you can be sure they will be giving it 110% out there”.
