What has to be one of the most entertaining series in the history of the event with some close racing and epic on the water battles came to a victorious conclusion for the Roemmers family’s ‘Team Azzurra’ on Saturday 23rd September.
Team Azzurra took the title by a margin of only 6 points, which in a class of ten boats after fifty races is some close racing!
The six regattas were held in the USA, Portugal and Spain meaning there were some long treks for the predominately European based teams, as usual Peters & May were on stand-by to organise the transport and customs work of all the events containers and team yachts over land and sea which this year involved two bespoke Transatlantic sailings to accommodate the series events locations and dates.
The second bespoke sailing saw the teams loaded in Miami and discharged with their support containers and tenders in Valencia and Palma with our own expert loadmasters on hand to take care of the loading, lashing and make it look easy.
These high end performance racing yachts need to be handled correctly and delicately with preparation of all the elements like cradling, lifting equipment and positioning being the key to success. Due to their construction they are able to be handled as a single point lift which means on the water to water service with mast up and keel on there is minimal changes to the race setup.
The demanding timescales and delicate shipping operations need their own expert team behind them. Peters & May with their decades of experience in bespoke logistics and leading the market in racing yacht logistics fitted the bill perfectly. With a strong global team the local offices in Miami, Valencia, Palma and Genoa all worked together on operations overseen by the Global Yacht Racing Division at head office.
Justo Gosalbes, Managing director of Spain commented- ‘It has been a pleasure dealing with the captains, owners and crew of the yachts and of course the series organisers, this keeps the challenge of keeping the program rolling and the excitement coming more satisfying.’
He continued- ‘ personally being on the ground at each event and having the local offices to work with in the key locations makes the logistics for the 52 Super Series a fantastic team effort from Peters & May Group and is just one of the reasons we were chosen as the official logistics supplier'
Peters & May would like to thank all the boat teams for their hard work over the series and are already in planning the logistics for the 2018 series which starts in Croatia this coming May.
With the latest news being that there are eight new boats in build that are expected to compete next year the passion and drive to win is very much in the DNA of this series and we can’t wait to see what 2018 brings.
