The traditional Peters & May Caribbean Party at The Southampton Boatshow, has been revised this year to support and raise relief funds for the Caribbean Island communities that have been hit by hurricane Irma.
The event will take place on Thursday the 21st Sept at 1700 on the Peters & May stand (C092) where we hope to highlight the positive spirit of the Caribbean.
In true resilient Caribbean style the event will see a steel pan band setting the scene, accompanied with Antigua's English Harbour 5 Year Old Rum cocktails served with Fever Tree mixers. The drinks and entertainment is free of charge and hosted by Antigua & Barbuda Tourism, Antigua Sailing Week and Peters & May Group, however, donations for this important cause will be collected.
Although many islands escaped with minor damage, on hearing the news of the devastation to several islands that are the homes or frequent holiday destinations for our friends, clients and colleagues, Peters & May along with their partners decided to change the evening to help raise awareness and funds for the reconstruction of the affected areas.
Kathy Lammers, Chairman of Antigua Sailing Week's Regatta Organising Committee has this advice: "Many people are asking how they can assist the region and our advice to everyone is don't change your plans. Come to the region and enjoy Antigua Sailing Week and all the other regattas you were planning to race in. Each island is heavily dependent on the yachting industry and therefore your support in attending their regattas will play a major part in the rebuilding efforts wherever you visit."
Peters & May Group PR Manager, Joshua Flavell commented, "The Caribbean is a second home to many boat owners who return year after year. Having raced and cruised in the Caribbean in some of these fantastic places we wanted to show our support."
He continued "We have also been looking into the possibility of shipping materials and equipment into the affected areas to aid with recovery efforts and are working with authorities and companies in order to position vessels to assist in the relocation of damaged boats for repair and will share updates when we have further details."
Donations will be collected on the evening and throughout the week on the Peters & May stand (C092). Funds raised for relief efforts will be shared equitably among the islands of Barbuda, St. Maarten/St. Martin, St. Barths, Anguilla, BVI and USVI.
