Variety in her day-to-day work has helped time fly for Lindsey Ashdown who today celebrates 20 years at global shipping and logistics specialist Peters & May. When Lindsey joined the firm, back in February 2001, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s split was dominating the headlines alongside 24-year-old Ellen McArthur as she became the youngest person to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe.
But while much has changed over the last two decades, Lindsey’s work has remained a valued constant for Peters & May, which has evolved during her time there from a UK-based international shipping agent to a truly global operation with a network of offices across the world.
Recalling how much technology has altered the nature of her work over the years, Lindsey says: “When I first joined, we used to have to write customs documents by hand and deliver them to the customs office - now everything is done electronically. The company has also become much more structured which has improved our international operations”.
Asked what has kept her so loyal to Peters & May, Lindsey explains: “I enjoy the variety of work; my role covers quoting, operations, customs clearance, sea freight and road freight, as well as shipments to and from points all over the world. I also like that the company is small enough to be personal, everyone knows everyone else across most of the offices and this helps us to work together on international shipments.”
Lindsey started out dealing with exports for large boatbuilders such as Sunseeker, Princess, Fairline and Sealine to the USA and Australia. After a period of maternity leave, Lindsey spent some time working with the French office looking after shipments of production boats for well-known firms including Beneteau, Jeanneau, Lagoon and Fountaine-Pajot. Lindsey took on her current role as Peters & May’s Liner Operations Manager, primarily handling global shipments of private yachts and new vessels from the UK, in 2019.
Notable highlights for Lindsey have included working on transportation for the Land Rover G4 challenge, time spent at the Peters & May’s French office and travelling to visit clients and attend boat shows.
Here’s to 20 more happy years with Peters & May!
