After months of preparations, the first of five 52 SUPER SERIES regattas took place last week with Menorca Sailing Week. Teams battled through some still conditions. With some tight racing it was Platoon that finished in first place with a strong performance ending with 28 points. In second and third place were Provezza and Quantum Racing.
Before the start of this series, the aim of most of the teams was to give a consistent performance. Historically, it is consistent racing across regattas that has earned the likes of Quantum and Azzurra their championship titles in recent years. With this in aim, preparations ahead of Menorca Sailing Week were intense with 10 of the 11 crews participating in the Palma Vela Sail Racing Event, whilst in practice.
Justo Gosalbes, Managing Director for Peters & May Spain was in attendance at the Menorca 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week last week. He commented: “After working with event organisers and teams for months in the follow up to the series, it’s always satisfying to see the series begin. Great to see a variety of wins across all the racing last week, in what were some difficult racing conditions”.
Now that Menorca Sailing Week has come to a close, racers look towards Puerto Sherry Royal Cup which takes place in June. This year will be the first time that the 52 SUPER SERIES visits the renowned Atlantic racing waters around Cadiz. With winds expected to be between 7 and 15 knots, teams look forward to some fast racing in the open waters. Watch this space!
