After some successful racing in Cascais last month, the 52 SUPER SERIES now moves on to the famous location of Puerto Portals in Mallorca, Spain. A popular venue for numerous international events in the nautical world, Peters & May are sure both racers and spectators will not be disappointed by what Puerto Portals has to offer. The Mediterranean waters once again will offer a change in conditions from Cascais, which Atlantic side offered some strong winds and rough seas.
After claiming their 6th world title, it was Quantum who took the lead in Cascais. Favouring opportunists, Cascais enabled Quantum to get ahead of the game with some downwind sleigh rides seeing gains of over hundreds of meters at a time. With the potential to hit speeds at well over 20 knots on downwind gains, this made for thrilling racing to watch! Already front runners after Zadar, Quantum finished Cascais with a 19-point lead, closely followed by Sled who enter Puerto Portals in 2nd place overall and Azzurra who currently sit in 3rd place.
As we come towards the last few rounds of the 52 SUPER SERIES, teams are refining tactics with increasing experience racing the newly designed yachts competing this year. Peters & May look forward to seeing even stronger tactical racing in Puerto Portals.
