What a start to 2018’s 52 Super Series! 12 teams set sail on the season at the Sibenik 52 Super Series Sailing Week with great enthusiasm. Croatia, known for its history and naturally picturesque coastline; offered this year’s participants an unfamiliar challenge. Far from the tried and tested arenas of Mallorca and Valencia; Sibenik presented an exciting opportunity for participants to experience a new racing environment.
The sun shone for the 5-day’s racing last week with a gentle breeze keeping evenly matched racers in close competition throughout. Overall 5 teams won races, with Quantum Racing pushing forwards to victory securing their title for the first regatta of the series. Quantum now head in to Zadar Regatta with a lead of 5 points on Platoon who finished second; and 12 points on Sled coming in third.
A brand-new venue, combined with 9 improved yachts designs amongst the 12 strong fleet, meant that Sibenik was a challenge for even for the most practiced of teams. Going forwards Quantum strive for more, looking to increase boat speed and tighten up tactically during upcoming regattas.
Justo Gosalbes, Managing Director of Peters & May Spain offered his comments. “After months of work by boat builders, and Peters & May shipping yachts between factories and racing destinations; it’s great to see the 52 Super Series kick off! If the regatta at Sibenik is anything to go by we can look forward to an exciting series”.
With the 52 Super Series now well underway; participants prepare for 5 days of racing at the Zadar Royal Cup kicking off in just 21 days on 20th June. Although the regatta remains in the Adriatic for the time being, Peters & May; as the official logistics partner to the 52 Super Series, will still be working hard fulfilling all the logistical needs of participants and event organisers.
