AIRCRAFT SIMULATOR SHIPPING FROM UK TO ARKANSAS, USA.

Four days before Christmas and Peters & May's sea freight department is busy moving an aircraft simulator from the UK to Arkansas, USA for delivery to the US Air Force. The C130J Hercules Fuselage Trainer is manufactured by GEL Engineering Ltd near Southampton and consists of two giant units which were edged out of their factory with only millimeters to spare.

Specialist load superintendents from Peters & May's Training division L.E.T.S. were on site to take charge of the delicate task of lifting the two units from the confines of the factory's yard, up and over a wall before guiding them down onto the waiting low loader trucks. Due to the "out of gauge" size of the units an escort vehicle was required with a Police escort taking over to guide the "Abnormal Loads" into Southampton and to the Docks.

The move was just one link in the chain of events aftre months of planning that have seen Sea Freight Manager, Greg Smith, attending to every detail from start to finish. "When moving freight of this size there is no room for error and every element of the project has to be checked and re-checked and all the individuals involved regularly consulted. Good planning and communication are essential." commented Greg.
